Lose 10 Pounds In 3 Days With The Heart Foundation Diet

Posted on Nov 30, 2009 under Diets | No Comment

With the population becoming fatter and fatter, spiralling into ever-increasing obesity, the medical experts are constantly reminding us of the dangers to our health.  There are many weight reducing diets available to help you and one of the popular ones is the Heart Foundation Diet.

This diet is sometimes stated to be the British Heart Foundation Diet but, I could not find any evidence of it on their website.  It is known also as the Greenland Diet.

To achieve long-term weight loss, you need to eat a sensible diet, combine it with regular exercise and aim to lose 1 – 2 pounds each week.

But…what about that party, holiday etc. that is fast approaching and you want to lose a few pounds to look your best…quickly.  Maybe you want to kick-start your regular weight loss.  It is not advisable to be on a strict diet plan for long periods of time or as a regular practice, but can help to achieve immediate results as a confidence and motivation booster.

The heart foundation diet is a 3 day plan aiming to reduce your weight by 10 pounds.  The suggested menus are as follows:

Day 1

Breakfast:

Black coffee or tea with low calorie sweetener
                ½ grapefruit
1 slice of dry toast with 2 teaspoons of peanut butter
Lunch:

                4 ounces tuna
                1 slice of dry toast
Black coffee or tea with low calorie sweetener or water
Dinner:

                3 ounces of lean meat
1 cup of green string beans
                4 ounces of carrots
4 ounces of vanilla ice cream
                1 small apple
Black coffee or tea with low calorie sweetener or water

Day 2

Breakfast:

Black coffee or tea with low calorie sweetener
                1 boiled or poached egg
                1 slice of dry toast
                ½ banana
Lunch:

4 ounces tuna or cottage cheese
                5 plain crackers
Black coffee or tea with low calorie sweetener or water
Dinner:

                2 hotdogs
                3 ounces of broccoli
                2 ounces of carrots
4 ounces of vanilla ice cream
Black coffee or tea with low calorie sweetener or water

Day 3

Breakfast:

Black coffee or tea with low calorie sweetener
                5 plain crackers
                1 ounce of cheddar cheese
                1 apple

Lunch:

                1 hardboiled egg
                1 slice of dry toast
Black coffee or tea with low calorie sweetener or water

Dinner:

                4 ounces tuna
                4 ounces of cauliflower
                4 ounces of carrots
                1 cup of melon
4 ounces of vanilla ice cream
Black coffee or tea with low calorie sweetener or water

The success of the heart foundation diet is the extremely low calorie intake forcing your body to start using its fat reserves whilst still giving some nutritional balance.

Repair That Tear With Rotator Cuff Exercises

Posted on Nov 19, 2009 under Lifetime Fitness | No Comment

The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons attached to your upper arm bone at one end and your scapula at the other covering your shoulder in a ‘cuff’ of muscle.  They are necessary for your shoulder joint movements and stability.  When your rotator cuff becomes damaged, the result can be pain and restricted arm movement.  Rotator cuff exercises can play an important role in relieving these symptoms.

A trauma to your shoulder can often lead to a rotator cuff tear.  Wear and tear of tendons can be another cause.  Participating in activities that include repetitive throwing, repeated overhead or forceful pulling movements make you particularly vulnerable to this injury.

The majority of rotator cuff pain can be treated with rotator cuff exercises but, if the injury is serious, then surgery is probably going to be required.  It is very important to consult with your doctor before commencing any exercise routine.

After having your exercise routine approved, you must take time to warm up before starting.  Check out the following video on warm up exercises.

What rotator cuff exercises should you practice?  The videos below demonstrate appropriate exercises that you can do.

The practice of rotator cuff exercises will help to eliminate pain and restore strength and mobility in your shoulder.  It should help also to prevent future rotator cuff injuries by strengthening your shoulder.
