Lifetime Fitness? You Are Lucky To Have The Chance.

Posted on Feb 27, 2010 under Lifetime Fitness | No Comment

I visited a 2nd World War site today and it brought home to me just how lucky we all are today to have the opportunities to keep ourselves fit and well nourished.  During the war years, with food rationing in the UK there was hardly enough food available to keep alive let alone have a choice.  Lifetime fitness was not really on the agenda.

Well, we have a choice today and what do we do?  We eat loads of junk food and pile on the belly fat.  Do we not have a duty with everything that is available to us today, to keep ourselves fit and healthy?

Think about it and then do something about it.  You have a choice, they didn’t.

Muscle Workouts Will Help Rocket Your Golf Swing Training

Posted on Feb 26, 2010 under Lifetime Fitness | No Comment

To be able to perform certain movements needed to execute a great golf swing necessitates major muscles in your body playing an important role.  You need to include muscle workouts in your training.  It is no longer enough to know just the theory.

Swinging a golf club around 18 holes puts a strain on muscles by being subjected stretches alien to them.  Whilst some golfers may scoff at the very idea of muscle workouts, by the end of a round they are usually the ones who whine about aches and pains in backs and legs.

The very nature of playing golf means your muscles are going to encounter twisting and straining, so adopting a correct golf swing is essential to prevent early exhaustion and things like muscle cramps.

In golf swing training, an important aspect is balance.  To achieve perfect balance requires strong leg muscles so performing leg strengthening exercises would be to your advantage.  Repeated golf swing training encourages the co-operation of all your muscles to achieve your goals.

There is more to golf swing training than the knowledge of how to swing properly.  It is not enough simply to be able get into the right position for balance or grip your club correctly.  You need to equip yourself mentally too.

It is no good thinking about work problems or the like when you are about to drive your ball down the fairway.  Unless you want to end up in the woods or water of course.  You need to hold positive thoughts in your mind and envisage exactly where you want your ball to go and then with grip, balance and your eyes on the ball, let your swing come naturally.

If you want to improve your golf swing it is essential that you practice muscle workouts to ensure that you are able to avoid any physical aches and pains.

Is Snow Shoveling Bad For Your Health?

Posted on Feb 17, 2010 under Men's Health | No Comment

Hi All,

With the recent heavy snowfalls experienced throughout the country comes the task of snow shoveling and the associated health risks that go with it.   To avoid serious injuries you need to assess not only the task but, your own physical fitness too.

Unless you have been exercising regularly, there is a good chance that the sudden stress of shoveling snow could well result in strains to your back and muscle pulls.  Even worse, the extra stress on your heart could lead to a heart attack.

So what can you do to reduce the risk of injury or heart problems?

Some precautionary ideas you could adopt include:

If you are over the age 45, you would be best avoiding the job especially if you are unfit or have heart problems.

Do a full warm up session before starting such as jogging in place and stretching.

Use an ergonomically correct snow shovel.

Push the snow instead of lifting it.

Take a rest every 15 minutes to stand up straight and walk around and drink water.

Taking precautions to look after yourself is largely a matter of common sense, so make sure you think before you dive into the white stuff.
