Are there gyms in India, like the ones in USA?
Hello, I am trying to find out if there are gyms to work out in….
For athletic fitness….
where women can come to as well….not just a "Golds Gym" Men only type of club, you know the kind I mean….(smiles) Where there are only men lifting huge dumbbell weights and not where women would feel comfortable….(for example: having to deal with disrespectful guys 24/7) Are there women friendly Gyms? If so, can you describe some of the equipment? Do they have elliptical machines….? are all weights "dumbbell" kind, or do they have larger machines where there are seats with arm and leg extensions and adjustable weights….I am wondering about specifically Delhi area….Thanks so much for any info

I have heard that sports are not so common in India….That the average person does not play much sport (which may be incorrect) so I thought perhaps that Gyms were not either. Thank you very much for your answers.

nkbup First of all…You seem to be prejudice against America and that is clearly (being a hypocrite as you indicated I was prejudice) You clearly felt like insulting America to feel better about what you assumed was an Insult on India….(not exactly taking the high road) If you construed my question as an insult (I apologize for your offense) But I do not claim to know India well. (that is why I ask Q. I have asked questions to learn from real people what is real of India….I always wish to know satya and not fake image from society. I defend the remark about sports as I have heard the same from more than one Indian person….That the state has not promoted sport (I do not look down on you for it) I do not pretend of claim that my own country does not have plenty of problems….I do not claim to believe my country is better or less, I do not even at any point say that I look down on India in any way….I admire it as well as my own country for all the good they hold. In Bangalore, I was a member of the Reebok’s Gym… it was very professional and b/c it was a costlier membership, there was a higher class of clientele. Also, many of the gyms I visited before joining Reebok’s offered "women only" timings of the day and even some have "women only" floors.

PS the Reebok’s gym was three floors: one was the spa floor (with sauna, showers, lockers, lounge) the next had weights, weights machines, etc., the third floor was the cardio floor with ellipticals, treadmills and bicycles with it’s own television (with cable)… there was also a juice bar on this floor.

FOR EXAMPLE : GOLD’S GYM , STERLING AND MANY MORE,
THEY HAVE ALL TYPE OF HI-END EQUIPMENTS ,
LIKE ELECTRIC WALKER , WINDMILL ,CARDIOVASCULAR EQUIPMENTS AND MANY MORE..
we have got the gyms……….. and the bodies to flaunt !
yes, there are plenty of gyms with sophisticated equipment and world class facilities. if ure in new delhi, drop in at talwarkar’s gym. if ure gurgaon, check ‘elemention’ out
I beg to say that the question is highly offensive. The american people still think that India is living in Dark ages, having no facilities and people take no part in sport etc.The expression like"like ones we have in USA" are clearly efforts to differentiate between India and US. The question also suggest that Indian people are unfriendly to women. The fact is that largest number of Rape are committed in US and US jails have largest number of criminals in the world.And now ofcourse their status of Economic Superpower has gone to dust becoz they are only playing out of borrowed money and doing no work.Stop this trash and have a fresh look on the world.
