If I want to get muscular what should I buy? What is a good home gym?
Hi. I am almost 14 and for my birthday I will be getting workout equipment. I am wanting to get a home gym, but I don’t know what type I should get. I was looking at this one:
http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=content&target=products/fitness/weight_training/weight_benches&start=0&selectedSKU=0415-01292-6001
is that a good brand/model? If you could, please suggest what home gym to buy. Thanks

That is way too much stuff, and most of it is useless unless you want to be a pro body builder.
All you need is:
Squat Rack
Bench
Olympic bar
Plenty of weights
Padded mat for stretching
And if you really want to work on your arms and abs too, then a pull up / dip bar is great to have too.
EDIT: Don’t get a bowflex, they are essentially giant rubber bands and will degrade over time. A 45 lbs weight will always weigh the same no matter how many times you lift it.
i say a bowflex machine…… u can work your all body on it..
either that or a whole set of free weights and dumbells
How will you learn to use the equipment? Who is going to point out your errors.(wrong body posture). It might be better to join a gym for a year and learn the basics, and believe me, it takes a year. And then plan out your home gym according to your needs. You would be better informed by that time.
It’s nice, but honestly free weights are the way to go. When you exercise with machines of those sorts you lose out on stabalizing muscles. All you need is a weight rack, bench, an olympic barbell, olympic dumbells that need weight to be loaded onto them, and the olympic weights.
